Welcome Adrian!

I was hugely honored to attend the birth of my friend Cecilia's baby at 2:31 am on Thursday morning. This was an awesome awesome experience -not just because she managed to get an almost 8-pounder through her birth canal in less than 6 minutes, which meant the baby was born in triage (or "the hallway", as the maternity ward gossip went) (total labor was about 3 hours).

So, technically, I didn't have to do much for my inaugural "doula" performance, but I still considered this a test run to see if my interest in midwifery was just another case of the "grass is greener". I suppose I still don't know for sure, but I thought it was a good sign that a) the blood and 'gore' didn't freak me out, b) there were no real 'surprises' in what actually happened, and c) I loved being there.

I will refrain from gushing over the baby as if I were the new mother (some people already had to endure that over the phone), but of course he's adorable and so tiny and a champion nurser and very calm and perfect. I'm so proud of Cecilia and Kerry -they make great babies, and they're great parents!

[cue collective "aaaawww"]

So, welcome Adrian Boeye, born in a flash on 8/26/2004, 7lbs 13 oz, 20.5 in with loooong fingernails!

Here's me

Here's me, wearing all black (if pink is the new black)

Here's me

Do you need a weather forecast if there's only one kind of weather?

People make fun of the weather in Scotland all the time, and I'm just as guilty of it as everyone else. But as always, there's a bit (or in this case, a lot) of truth to most humor.

I finally received my snazzy taped-seams-waterproof-but-breathable-outdoor-adventure rain coat in the mail the other day. I think this may be the most important piece of equipment I may buy for this research. I hate getting wet. Don't ask me why I'm going to Scotland then.

Coat in hand, I decided I'd check out the forecast for the Isle of Lewis for the next 10 days. Here it is:

WedAug 25
Showers
64°/54°

ThuAug 26
PM Showers
63°/54°

FriAug 27
Light Rain / Wind
63°/53°

SatAug 28
Showers
62°/53°

SunAug 29
Showers
63°/53°

MonAug 30
Light Rain
64°/53°

TueAug 31

65°/53°

WedSep 01

What common theme do we see emerging here, kids?!

Which leads me to the question...do you need a forecast if there's only one kind of weather?
